5 Songs to Pahmp You Up

Well, I'm almost done with finals week and finally have some free time. It's been a hell of a semester. I should be doing a lot more writing once I'm home for the summer.

Every once in a while, I'll be posting up some music that I like to listen to while I'm lifting/running/getting pumped up for an exam (yeah I actually do that, and it works). If you feel like it, give them a listen or download. I'm just trying to share some sweet tunes, dawg.

I'll preface this by saying that I mostly listen to metal/rock, and the occasional rap song if it's got a hard beat. As for the metal I listen to, I'm definitely not a metal "purist" and I could care less about what category of metal something falls under. I don't understand any of that shit. I consider Slipknot metal, and I like them. Call me an angsty 13 year old, I promise I'll get over it. I'll also sometimes listen to more mellow songs, especially when running, since it's probably not healthy to be acting like a rabid dog all the time.

Anyway, here's my picks for the first installment, in no particular order:

1. As I Lay Dying - The Sound of Truth

As I Lay Dying is definitely in my top 3 favorite bands. The beginning of this song makes me want to run up a damn mountain. It's my go-to song before an Organic Chem exam. These guys are nothing short of amazing. I'm going to try to keep these posts diverse as far as bands go, but most of them are probably going to contain at least one AILD song. One of the great tragedies of my life is that I got into this band after Tim Lambesis went to prison, and that I'll never get to see them live (tough life). Dude is jacked too, but he still tried to hire someone to kill his wife. Them evil steroids made him do it! #FreeTim

2. Volbeat - Dead But Rising

I'd have to also put Volbeat in my top 3. I saw them live back in October, and they were the most fun live band I've seen. Everyone on the floor went hard as fuck when they played this song. Volbeat's kind of a blend between Metallica and Johnny Cash that inexplicably works so well.

3. Slipknot- The Devil In I

I didn't always like Slipknot, till I heard this song from their newest album. Definitely a pretty dark song, but after hearing this I started to like their other stuff a lot more. Heads up, the music video isn't for the squeamish.

4. Nickelback - JUST KIDDING.

4. Johnny Cash- Got's Gonna Cut You Down

A lot of you have probably already heard this song. It's certainly not like any of the other songs on this list but I do have some diversity in my tastes. I particularly like this song for running.

5. Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone

Classic. Nothing needs to be said about Pantera. Love how hard this riff is.

There you go. Hopefully you like one of these, and get some PRs out of it.
